BASL & BLTG

The British Association for the Study of the Liver is the National Association for hepatology. BASL is dedicated to advancing knowledge and understanding of the biology and pathology of the liver for the optimal care of patients. BASL is composed of interested individuals from clinical medicine, clinical and basic research and allied professions.

The BLTG (British Liver Transplant Group) is a sub-group of BASL and was formed in 2014 to represent the professional interests of liver transplantation in the UK and promote strategic and academic development.
Membership Summary
BASL is an association of healthcare professionals and is inclusive of over 1,000 members from clinical, research, scientific and allied professional groups from a diverse range of backgrounds, institutions and services. Our membership benefits include education, clinical guidance, special interest groups and opportunities for professional development in leadership roles. We are a Charitable not-for-profit Association whose income is derived from membership fees and its various activities.
Membership to the Association is open to an individual in the UK with an interest in the liver and its disorders. To become a member, an application is made electronically to the Association.
BASL Membership covers membership to BASL and all of its sub groups and special interest groups including BLNA, BVHG, BLTG, BHPG and HCC-UK. Membership is not available to one specific group but the subscription rate you pay is determined by your job status. This membership structure was put in place at the start of the membership year 31 January 2015.
This allows all members free access to BASL and affiliate group meetings except for specific meetings where subsidised rates apply. Any chargeable meetings will have rates advertised.
Core aims
We aim to:
- Disseminate research findings and clinical expertise in liver disease;
- Promote and provide opportunities for collaboration in liver research;

BLTG’s current priorities are to:
- have a patient centred focus, involving patient representatives in its membership and promoting collaboration between centres to harmonise practice and reduce unwanted variation.
