The Chapter of Nurses developed a short questionnaire to help us improve the support we give to our nurse members and to gain a better understanding understand of the potential barriers for nurses joining the BTS.
The questionnaire was sent to all Specialist Nurses for Organ Donation, Recipient Coordinators, Post Transplant Nurse Specialists, Live Donor Coordinators and other Specialist Nurses working in the field of transplantation.
Recipient Coordinator Competencies
Recipient coordinators provide a highly specialised service for patients and their families throughout their journey on the transplant pathway.
The recipient coordinator is required to possess advanced clinical skills, expert communication and education skills to enable to carry out their role effectively. Unlike the Specialist Nurses for Organ Donation there is no nationally agreed competency framework for recipient coordinators.
The Chapter of Nurses with the support of the BTS will lead on a project, working in collaboration with healthcare colleagues, to advise on and develop a competency framework for recipient coordinators. The proposal and the approach to be taken to develop the framework can be viewed here.
