Passing of Mr Adil al Tayar

Mr Adil El Tayar
March 1956 – March 2020

 

Dear Colleagues, 

I am sorry to inform you of the sad death of  Mr Adil al Tayar, a distinguished renal transplant surgeon and former member of the British Transplantation Society. Mr al Tayar worked at St Mary’s Hospital and at St George’s Hospital as well as several centres overseas. Abbas Ghazanfar has written an obituary which is attached to this message.

Expression of Interest for Chair of RINTAG

NHSBT

The role of Chair of the Research, Innovation and Novel Technologies Advisory Group.

Closing date for expressions of interest is Sunday 23rd February.

As you know, the post is currently held by Gabriel Oniscu who will reach the end of his tenure in June 2020. He has made major contributions to the improvement of the ODT Research approvals pathway and the development of an allocation scheme for research organs. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his exemplary service.

We are now looking to reappoint the Chair of this Advisory Group and are seeking nominations from interested parties. Applicants should be clinicians of Consultant status (or equivalent), be active in the field of transplantation in the UK and have the support of their peers. The appointment will be for an initial period of three years with the possibility of a second and final term of two years.

Applications should be less than two pages, include a brief CV and outline of work proposed for the next three years and be submitted to Heather Crocombe at Heather.Crocombe@nhsbt.nhs.uk by Sunday 23 February. Interviews dates are scheduled for 24/25 March at the West End Donor Centre in London.

Before submitting your application please note the following:

1) NHSBT do not pay excellence awards (National or Local) as part of PA payment for Advisory Group Chair Roles
2) If successful in your application, the Advisory Group Chair Role must form part your job plan with your Trust/ Hospital Board.

2019-nCov and Transplantation

 

We are aware of concerns amongst both patients and professional groups regarding the implications of the novel corona virus for transplantation.

In brief: organ donation should NOT be considered from individuals with proven or possible 2019-nCoV infection, nor from individuals who have returned from China in the last 21 days.

Funding of up to £2,500 for healthcare sector women available

Women & Leadership International is administering a national initiative to support the development of female leaders across the UK’s healthcare sector.


The campaign is providing women with grants of up to £2,500 to enable participation in one of three leadership development programs: Leading Edge (for junior and aspiring leaders and managers), Executive Ready (for mid-level leaders and managers) and the Advanced Leadership Program (for senior and executive level women).
